Stress can come in many forms whether it’s from work, grief, family, school, etc. Regardless of how we feel that we may be, “handling” the stress; coping strategies to support our bodies are needed to prevent disease and dysfunction.

Simple coping strategies:

Epsom-salt bath

The added Magnesium from the Epsom salt not only is helpful to calm the body but it is a necessary vitamin that many are deficient in. Magnesium is also very helpful for healthy sleep and bowel motility. (essential oils optional)

Exercise

Exercise- Regular exercise decreases stress and increases your endorphin production. It helps to support your body’s ability to cope with stress as well as affects your mood positively.

Sleep

Sleep is vital for muscle repair and memory strengthening, it is an antioxidant for the brains because free radicals are removed during this time. GH (Growth hormone) is secreted during sleep, this is responsible for the breakdown of fat stores and blood sugar regulation as well as helping to convert fat to muscle.

Journaling

Journaling is a way to get the stressful thoughts out and be able to reflect.

Try an Adaptogen

Minimize or avoid caffeine- Instead try herbal tea. Lemon balm, Tulsi, Passion Flower. Chamomile are very calming and restorative. .. Or try an adaptogen! Adaptogens are herbal remedies that help with the body’s resiliency and ability to cope with stress. (Ashwagandha, Tulsi (Holy Basil), Astragalus, Rhodiola, Maca, Turmeric…are just a few).

Meditation or Mindfulness decreases stress, anxiety, blood pressure. Meditation allows the body to relax and creates awareness of thoughts and the connection to the body. Mindfulness is about being in the moment and paying attention and then accepting.
